Types of Online Marketing
We prefer to simplify online marketing into 3 fundamental types (I advise the use of the first two types - either alone or simultaneously. )
'Pay per Click' advertising |
The most cost effective way to get instant traffic to any website |
- Costs are low to medium and ongoing - It is easy to understand the cost-benefit (cost per lead). |
Basic Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) |
Just getting the basics right on important pages, something many websites unfortunately lack. Providing relevant content (visible factors) and search engine friendly structures (invisible factors). |
- Costs are low and only once-off - Takes longer to have a noticable effect (4 to 6 weeks plus) - Much harder to understand the cost-benefit, unless you already have good internal marketing processes that track leads and sales. |
Advanced Search Engine Optimisation |
Only really worth doing when the above 2 methods either don't work (unlikely) or if you can't get enough business and simply want as much business as possible |
- Costs are High and need to be continued for around 6 months or more. - Takes longer to have a noticable effect (4 to 6 weeks plus) - Similarly hard to understand the cost-benefit, unless you already have good internal marketing processes that track leads and sales. |
It is well worth trying some of the examples included - so you can see for yourself how well these actually work and get an idea of the costs.
Note that there are no doubt people who would not agree with the above table - but it is a simplified and, above all, a very practical way of looking at Internet Marketing. IE - What works is more important than how you talk about it.
